Actually, considering the price, this is the best existing on the market replacement for the original (and, in my opinion, dreadful) Unimat SL motors.

The replacement motor is robust and built to last with minimum requirements for maintenance. It does not really take much time to fit this motor to any other Emco Unimat SL or Unimat 3.

The motor is designed to easily fit both SL and 3 Unimat models without any additional modification or equipment. 200W motor power is regarded as continuous, so you do not need to be bothered anymore with observing duty cycle times. However, under full load the heat of the motor casing will be such that it is not possible to physically handle for any length of time. It seems that, apart from excellent functional aspects, there was also a great consideration given to aesthetically please users, as the replacement motor with speed controller looks stunning. The vintage, retro steam punk style of the controller merges very well with the visual style of Unimat SL.

The speed range for this motor is from approx 1000rpm to 4000rpm. It can be connected to any single phase mains socket between 220V - 240V AC providing that proper plug adaptor is used.

To add some personal feedback about this motor, I need to notice that once I replaced the old, original, 95W weak! , badly duty cycled Unimat motor my first, surprisingly positive, impression was that my Unimat becomes "completely different (in a good sense) machine". I also experimented a lot with changing belts length with connection to variable speed, but my final, personal preference is to use just one belt and change the speed from minimum to maximum by simply turning the knob. This of course depends on what I do. Because you can switch the motor on and off by pushing the knob down, this does not affect the pre-adjusted speed.

You can switch it on and off and independently adjust the speed. I however would recommend you to spend some time and make few experiments with different belts lengths on different belt pulleys, so you can explore a large number of options for speed and torque. This version of the controller is equipped with stylish indicator, to show standby mode (green neon light) and run mode (orange neon light) of the motor.

It is important to notice that original Emco 3 jaw self-centering chuck has got impressively low (considering the machine's age) 0.03mm run-out, when measured 20mm away from jaws and using 6mm ground steel rod. Any cosmetic wear, tear and marks are exposed and magnified on pictures to give you the best possible, for on-line shopping, description of items' visual condition.
