Here I have for sale an aftermarket variable speed drive to suit the Emco SL Unimat lathes made from 1954 to 1977. This variable speed drive consists of an 100 watt 24 volt DC permanent magnet motor and a variable speed transformer by Como drills that runs off a standard 220/240 volt 13 amp house hold power supply no problem.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS SALE IS JUST FOR THE MOTOR AND THE VARIABLE SPEED TRASFORMER ONLY AND THE LATHE SHOWN IN THE PICTURES IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS SALE. This is a great mod or accessory for your Unimat SL! This motor is WISPER QUIET!!! And fairly powerful, even on the lowest speed setting thanks to the cleaver "pulsed feedback" circuit inside the variable speed transformer which senses the load on the motor and adjusts the current and voltage accordingly in the form of tiny pulses to maintain the full torque. (the pulses are very noticeable at the slowest speeds and the red LED light on the transformer flickers to indicate the current flow and the load on the motor).

Being just 100 watts, this variable speed motor is. Ot much more powerful than the weak original EMCO "U90" & "KUSS 99" drive motors but it has great advantage that it can maintain the same power output as those original wimpy EMCO motors at very slow speeds without the need of having to mess around with changing belts over on pullies! - This is perfect for precision clock and watch maker work where less power is more! As, if the machine should grab and stall then it won't damage your cutting tool or workpiece easily! This motor just screws straight on to your lathe's existing motor bracket with no modification needed to your lathe and the standard longer rubber drive belt just goes from the custom-made motor pulley to the largest step on your Unimat's large aluminum headstock pulley and that's it.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS SALE IS JUST FOR THE MOTOR AND THE VARIABLE SPEED TRASFORMER ONLY AND THE LATHE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS SALE. Because this motor has a pulsed feedback circuit it is recommended for your own safety that you either switch the transformer completely off BY THE RED ILLUMINATED ROCKER SWITCH or you can just UNPLUG THE - + MOTOR LEADS FROM THE TRANSFORMER BEFORE CHUCKING UP WORKPIECES OR ROTATING THE HEADSTOCK CHUCK as if you attempt to rotate the lathe chuck backwards with the transformer switched on (or the - + motor leads connected) THERE IS A DANGER THAT MOTOR WILL STILL ROTATE FORWARDS SLIGHTLY ON ITS OWN!!
